The Clean Energy Jobs Act (HB 1106) that my colleagues and I passed this session is expected to improve public health by preventing up to 50 premature deaths and over 600 asthma attacks each year through reduced air pollution. In addition, the Clean Energy Jobs Act will increase the state’s renewable energy goals to 25% by 2020 and, in the process, create thousands of high-paying jobs.
For these reasons and many more, I joined my colleagues in the House and Senate to override Governor Hogan’s veto and pass this legislation. With 71% of Marylanders support, these common sense measures will do so much to help many different sectors of the state. In the face of the Trump administration’s assault on the environment, together we sent a message to the Hogan administration that Maryland would not sacrifice our commitment to environmental stewardship and clean energy innovation.
