The Maryland General Assembly made good on its promise to fund Planned Parenthood even if the federal government doesn’t. HB 1083 would reimburse Planned Parenthood for Medicaid preventive health services up to nearly $3 million in case federal dollars are cut off.
I was proud to co-sponsor, and stand with the General Assembly, as we became the first legislature in the country that would shield Planned Parenthood against actions by Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration. This bill is critical to guaranteeing that the 25,000 or more Maryland women who get their basic health care from Planned Parenthood will be able to keep accessing health care. This bill was enacted under Article 11, Section 17(b) of the Maryland Constitution – Chapter 28.
