In Committee: Election Law

Ways and Means Briefing Friday, January 26th – On Election Law Issues

The Ways & Means Committee received a briefing on election law issues from the Maryland State Board of Elections last Friday, in an effort to ensure no voter fraud is committed in future elections. At the briefing, the board introduced us to two new features of its website — one which enables Marylanders to check their registration status online and another called “Rumor Control,” that lists any rumors spread about an election and responds to them. The state board also explained how Maryland’s “Clear Ballot” system helps to authenticate (not count) election results. The system compares independent results to diagnose any discrepancies and completes audits that confirm the accuracy of Maryland’s primary voting system as well as increases transparency for voters.  The full briefing can be viewed here.
